Begin your journey with a two-night hotel stay in Andalusian Seville before boarding Aegean Odyssey and following the Guadalquivir River to the Atlantic Ocean. During your journey north you will visit the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, the Spanish cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, La Rochelle in France and enjoy a wine tasting in Bordeaux. Then continue onwards to Honfleur on the Normandy coast and the picturesque Channel Island of Guernsey.

Spend a day in the cosmopolitan British capital of London before cruising north to the breathtaking fjords and remote ports of Norway’s North Cape, as well as the traditional houses of Tromso. Along the way visit Lerwick in the Shetland Islands and stroll through one of Norway’s biggest ports, Bergen. Step ashore in another brand new port-of-call for 2019, Alesund at the mouth of the Geirangerfjord, which is renowned for its abundance of Art Nouveau architecture.

Explore Norway’s former Viking capital of Trondheim and visit the charming wooden houses of Stavanger. Then experience an overnight stay in the Danish capital of Copenhagen, one of the friendliest and most beautiful cities in Europe.

He is curating the exhibition Danelaw Saga: Bringing Vikings back to the East Midlands and managing the Centre’s public engagement programme. Prior to this, he worked at University College Cork on The World-Tree Project, a community collection initiative that produced a digital multimedia archive of resources for the teaching and study of the Vikings. Roderick earned his PhD on Viking berserks at the University of Nottingham, where he also taught Old English and Old Norse. Before returning to the academy, Roderick worked as an archaeologist throughout Britain. He has appeared on television in Time Team and Ancient Black Ops: Berserkers and has given many radio interviews about the Vikings. He is the author, with Dr Marjolein Stern, of Vikings: Raids. Culture. Legacy.

Roderick is an expert in Viking-Age warfare, Old Norse language, literature and culture, and reception studies. His primary areas of research are Old Norse literature, medieval and Viking Age Nordic culture, and popular culture depictions of Vikings. He is heavily engaged in communicating academic research about the Vikings to the public, both through public lectures, and by advising authors about Vikings for their books, most recently the English language translation of Makoto Yukimura’s Vinland Saga manga.

Roderick’s interest in the Viking Age stems from an early age when his grandmother told him stories about the Vikings, and was cemented by his time living and studying in Norway. This enthusiasm remains unabated, and he will happily talk Vikings with anyone willing to listen.

Having been bestowed a number of interesting ‘lives’ which may be revealed as the cruise progresses, John’s principal activity has been as the  actor ‘John Leeson’. He has celebrated over half a century’s visibility in theatre, film and television, and latterly as the unseen voice of Doctor Who’s iconic robot dog-companion K9. Hardly less important has been his professional wine-teaching career, one which has additionally covered many sea and river miles as wine tutor for a number of top smaller-ship cruise lines. As a reputable (and published) family cook his quick-reference guide to food/wine matching, ‘Marriages Made in Heaven’, will be freely available on board.

      MV AEGEAN ODYSSEY

There is a particular pleasure that comes with cruising aboard a smaller ship. Hosting an average of just 350 passengers, Aegean Odyssey is no ‘floating city’. She is small enough to sail rivers and put into the more characterful ports inaccessible to the ‘mega-ships’, the service is more personal and you get plenty of time to interact with the onboard experts.

Yet on the other hand, she is large enough to offer a superb selection of amenities, including two dining venues, several comfortable lounges and bars, a relaxing spa centre and well-stocked library. Cabins are spacious, modern and intelligently designed, and 39 cabins across a range of categories (including balcony) are set aside for solo travellers at low supplement.

Our website does not display live availability. All prices and availability be will confirmed at time of enquiry. The single supplement offers only apply to our single cabin categories. Special Offers are strictly capacity controlled, subject to availability, may be withdrawn at any time and are not always combinable. Please note – while we will do our best to adhere to this full itinerary, there may be changes at the discretion of the captain, due to weather advisories, port traffic and other unforeseeable circumstances. Shore excursions are subject to change. We reserve the right to alter, cancel or substitute an included excursion at any time. Unless otherwise specified, optional shore excursions are priced in US dollars and can be booked using the signup sheet and paid for on-board the ship. Optional shore excursions that are shown in local currency (or where specified for US passengers) must be pre-booked and paid for prior to departure.
